A washroom slated for the Okanagan Rail Trail is set to cost $220,000.
And while that sounds like a costly loo, the proposed washroom comes in $70,000 less than the North Okanagan Regional District budgeted for.
The washroom is proposed for a site directly on the trail in Coldstream, near the Westkal Road parking lot.
Plans for the washroom are due to be presented at the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee meeting today, June 3. Following the committee's review of the design, staff will continue to move forward with the project, says the report.
The design shows two separate washrooms in one building with an outside water fountain.
The Regional District had budgeted $260,000 for construction costs and $30,000 for design fees in its 2020 financial plan. Last fall the City of Vernon spent $110,000 on a new downtown washroom. The project came in $50,000 less than the $160,000 Vernon had budgeted for.
According to the report the washroom is scheduled to be completed by the late fall.
