A police officer was injured and two police vehicles damaged after a chase with a suspect in a stolen pickup wanted for property crimes that ended in the Kamloops area.
Around 3 a.m. today, Sept. 8, an RCMP officer spotted a stolen pickup truck in Kamloops in connection to a reported theft and flight from police a few hours earlier in 100 Mile House, according to an RCMP media release.
The reddish-brown Ford F-350 had been stolen out of Sicamous earlier in the month and was connected to thefts in Clearwater, Williams Lake and 94 Mile.
“Recognizing a suspect vehicle involved in multi-jurisdictional crime events was now in Kamloops, frontline officers knew the importance of stopping the offender and attempted to do so at Salish and Shuswap roads, but it once again fled, placing police and the public at risk,” Kamloops Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.
During their pursuit, the officers attempted to use a spike belt to stop the suspect vehicle on the Halston Connector in Kamloops. The driver than rammed a police car on Batchelor Heights Drive. It then hit another police car and took off down Lac Du Bois Road.
After the truck was stopped by police, they used a police dog to catch the suspect.
“This was a very dangerous situation involving an offender known to police, that occurred throughout several communities and ended with an officer injured and two police vehicles out of commission,” Supt. Pelley said.
No one was seriously hurt.
