Okanagan businesses are fundraising for Ukraine through liquor and food sales.

Money raised from pierogi purchases from the Little Hobo Soup and Sandwich shop will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, according to the shop’s Facebook page. Last month, the country was invaded by Russia and more than three million people have fled.

They could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday, March 19. Thousands have already been raised for the fundraiser thus far, according to the shop's Facebook page.

All of the money from Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery vodka sales for the month of March will go towards the Ukraine Emergency fund through Canada's branch of the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, according to the distillery’s Facebook page.

“Any bottles that you have already purchased in March, or any bottles that you purchase online or in-store through the end of the month, either for yourself or for your restaurant, lounge, or liquor store, will be included in this effort to hopefully help make this horrific situation a little better for the families affected,” the distillery posted.

Last weekend, the line to purchase Ukrainian food at the Ukrainian Catholic Church was so long it stretched around the building. Proceeds from the sales provided Ukrainians with much-needed medical supplies.

A rally for Ukraine will also be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Harvey Avenue overpass next to the Parkinson Recreation Centre.
