PENTICTON - Come celebrate the official opening of the Okanagan Lake waterfront walkway at a Beach Party fundraiser at the SS Sicamous esplanade this Saturday.

Splash around in the water to help beat the heat, or take a ride on a slip-n-slide that shoots you right out into the lake. The kids can play in a bouncy castle and have a barbecue hotdog (proceeds to go the SS Sicamous Society). There’s also a chance to get some free swag.

“Penticton’s waterfront has always been busy, and it’s incredible to see how the enhanced Okanagan Lake waterfront has brought even more people to Lakeshore Drive with a wider, more accommodating walkway,” said Mayor Garry Litke. “We hope everyone can join us for a celebration of Penticton’s vibrant waterfront.”

The Okanagan Lake walkway project was an effort to enhance the waterfront area in Penticton along Lakeshore Drive. It includes a cantilevered walkway over the water, high-energy LED lighting, and lots of trees and greenery, among other things.

The project was funded by a $1.2 million contribution from the Government of Canada Gas Tax Fun.

This Saturday also marks the 100th anniversary of the first daily run by the SS Sicamous across Okanagan Lake.
