Okanagan Lake beaches in Penticton temporarily closed

Temporary closures of the Okanagan Lake shoreline will be taking place as Penticton work crews establish flood controls in the next few days.The lake level is expected to exceed full pool on the weekend.

PENTICTON - The City of Penticton is temporarily closing some waterfront amenities as it beefs up flood protection measures. in advance of a forecasted increase in the level of Okanagan Lake.

Starting today, May 16, city work crews will begin installing tiger dams, gabion baskets, rip rap and sandbags across the waterfront from the SS Sicamous to the Okanagan Lake Marina.

The public is being asked to exercise caution in the areas where crews and equipment are working along the shoreline.

Access to Okanagan Lake beach, the Peach beach, Okanagan Lake Park beach, the dog beach and Marina Way beach will be closed while crews offload material or use equipment.

Traffic may be affected and nearby parking will be closed.
