Okanagan Falls resident Shelley Mackenzie won $25,428 from the Pacific Hold’Em Poker draw on Oct. 29, but it took a few days to sink in.
Mackenzie purchased the winning ticket at the Royal Canadian Legion and was volunteering when she decided to check her ticket after seeing the Bad Beat was won in Okanagan Falls, a BCLC media release said.
“I checked the ticket at the legion self-checker and saw that I was a winner. I had to call my husband over to see the amount won as I was too short to see the screen,” Mackenzie said.

Although it’s taken Mackenzie time to let the excitement of winning fully set in, she now plans to purchase a new hot tub with her prize.
“To begin with I was a little nervous and people kept asking me why I wasn’t excited yet. I just kept thinking that I have to protect this ticket,” Mackenzie said. “This whole process has been so great.”
