Okanagan ER closes temporarily

Due to a limited amount of doctors available, the ER in the South Okanagan General Hospital has shut down.

The ER is closed from March 8, from  6 p.m. to March 9 to 8 a.m., according to an Interior Health news release.

People should take note of the following if they require care when the emergency department is closed:

• In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.
• Visit the emergency department at the Penticton Regional Hospital which has 24-hour service
• Call HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1 (24-hour service) if you are unsure about your need to go to the emergency department.

Only emergency department services are impacted by this staffing challenge, according to Interior Health.
