UPDATE: Wildfire next to Okanagan Connector suspected to be human-caused

A wildfire that caused the Okanagan Connector to close last night is suspected to be caused by humans.

Highway 97C is open in both directions today, Aug. 5, between Highway 97 and Highway 5A at Aspen Grove, according to Drive BC after it temporarily closed due to a wildfire in the Trepanier Road area.

Area residents reported on Facebook the fire was along the highway.

Gagan Lidhran, fire information officer with BC Wildfire Service, said the suspected cause is human-related, but it's still under investigation at this time.

The fire is currently "being held" meaning wildfire crews don't anticipate any further spread of the fire in its predetermined boundaries, she said.

The fire was discovered Aug. 4 and nine personnel are on scene today to continue to work on the fire, she said.
