The Warren Peace Bunny Sanctuary's founder has been blown away by the support shown by the community as the small Lake Country charity currently sits in sixth place and is vying for a $100,000 grant.

The non-profit is competing as part of a My Giving Circle competition where voters choose from 70 different charities. The winner walks away with $100,000 and the top 10 winners will get $1,000 each.

“I really didn’t think we had a chance,” founder Antoinette Monod said. “We’re still in the top 10 and that’s pretty fantastic. I’m always thankful for the people that vote for us. The Lake Country community is so supportive.”

Even if they win $1,000, the money will go towards food for the roughly 700 small critters they care for including rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, pigs, rats, ferrets, chinchillas and turkeys.

“Next spring and summer we’re building an outside area, so people can visit and have picnic tables they can sit at and wait so things are more COVID-19 friendly,” Monod said.

The shelter has been closed to the public due to the pandemic.

As of Dec. 24, the sanctuary was in sixth place with 2,865 votes. Votes are still being held online until Dec. 30.

To vote online, visit My Giving Circle’s website.
