Okanagan and Kamloops residents react to B.C. election news

As expected B.C. Premier John Horgan called an election and, as expected, opposition parties aren't keen on the news.

We wanted to hear what you had to say, so we asked through our social media channels.

Read what your community thinks about going to the polls Oct. 24.

Phyllis Simon
Any government needs a clear majority in order to govern so every decision isn’t being made while dancing around others.

Erica Francis
I think it’s great! Get the NDP and Liberal influences out of this province before we are all on food stamps

I was considering voting NDP in the next election. There is no excuse for calling an election now and I will NOT vote NDP. This is political opportunism at its best. In the middle of a pandemic no less!!!

Dave Martin
Let's derail their plan of calling an early election for a win and vote them out. All they know how to do is play stupid games like riding 3 green party seats to get in power. Toss these clowns out!

Megan Hollowink
Hopefully this gets out fast and they find a way to do polls for those that don't have access to online voting. But still maintaining that social distance factor as well as limited groups.

Ruth Martens
BC Liberals must make it very clear that they are the right-wing choice here. They are not affiliated with or the same as Trudeau Liberals who are as leftwing as NDP. federally.

Montie Hogberg
About time now maybe we can get rid of the NDP and Liberal influences and green party.

Marion Nunn
Hopefully this will make a greater change for good! Change needed!

Cheryl Woolridge
We were promised pandemic pay and wage levelling in March but we are still waiting for it

Marcel Mallette
Parties should be forced to wait the four years before calling an election even when in minority. Another waste of money just so they can try to keep their jobs (and large pension plans.) It's another political game.

Chris Wagner
Just a few more million $$ that the NDP get to waste instead of getting the economy back on its feet. Just a power hungry individual.

Jim McIntee
It's too bad... I like Horgan, not the party though. So far, they have handled the crisis fairly well, but this is seriously risky for his party. I guess we should consider what party would be most beneficial to the province, not the personality.

Randy Valin
I wonder how many of the people crying there's an election coming up, are the same people that cried about an NDP minority government not being legit and have been demanding an election for the last two and a half years?

Iris Hooge
This is not the time to call an Election. We don't need to be spending money on an Election now. We are on the brink of another lockdown. It is reckless and not necessary. If I do vote, it will be a vote against NDP.

Gisela Ruckert
Our current electoral system encourages partisan opportunism like this. It's disingenuous to suggest that any other party wouldn't be doing the same thing.

Edna Wierenga
What a waste of time, money and personal safety I WON'T be voting Horgan!

Audrey Hall
Irresponsible and self-serving. Typical politician.

Edward Snow
Political need over citizens' health is a very bad look. Takes away a lot of credibility that he had built up

Elaine Williams
A Saturday election is this a first

Sonny J Smith
Booo John Boy... nothing like tooting your own agenda during a pandemic.. here's hoping it backfires in your face !!

Wendell Uglene
Dr Henry should go for Liberal leadership and bail from the sinking ship

Les Raven
Sounds good!! You have my vote NDP.

Mike Hibbert
I think it's a bad idea and he should have waited (until) at least the spring.

Pat Mintern
The last thing we need right now is an election....Horgan thinks he can win an election on the coattails of his popular health minister....He’s mistaken....He’s still the same ol’ NDP Horgan.

Rodrigo Leme
Self-serving doesn't even begin to cover it

Deanna Bell
We are so screwed either way

Pat A. Kerr
What a joke and a Saturday to boot.

Beverly Mcintosh
Irresponsible!

Unanajoy Davies
WHY? In the midst of a pandemic WHY? Hard enough to leave home to shop! Who cares about voting right now? IS THAT THE POINT Horgan?
