Okanagan and Kamloops fall foilage gets USA TODAY attention in latest Top 10 list

Autumn leaves in the north Okanagan.

KELOWNA - The Okanagan has gained some of the USA TODAY spotlight for its fall foliage.

It's listed among the 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards for Best Destination in the fall category. Nominees were released in July and then the public chose the winner.

The Okanagan came in sixth after Door County, Wisconsin; White Mountains, New Hampshire; Finger Lakes, New York; Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania; and the Upper Peninsula, Michigan.

"While British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley is best known for its wine, it’s also known for its spectacular golden fall foliage," reads the USA TODAY post. "Drive between Merritt and Ashcroft for some of the best views, or combine your leaf peeping with some wine tastings."

Technically, it's the Thompson Okanagan between Merritt and Ashcroft, but it's close.

The 10Best.com website averages five million visitors a month.
