Officers chase down, arrest suspect wanted on warrants in West Kelowna

West Kelowna RCMP pursued and arrested a suspect yesterday who has multiple warrants for his arrest.

An officer recognized the suspect, who is well known to police, at around 10:45 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 24, according to an RCMP media release. The man was in the driver’s seat of a grey GMC pickup registered to another person.

Upon noticing the officer, the suspect fled in the pickup at high speed which resulted in a collision on residential property in the 3100 block of Thacker Drive, RCMP said. The man attempted to escape on foot through different private properties until he forcibly entered a residence at the 1000 block of Sunnyside Road occupied by a man and an elderly woman.

The suspect resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

He's facing court proceedings related to his outstanding warrants, and police recommended new charges.

"We are extremely grateful that in his attempt to avoid arrest, no citizens were harmed,” Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.
