A routine traffic stop in West Kelowna earlier this week ended with the arrest of a man and a woman after a police officer was assaulted.

West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a motorhome travelling southbound on Highway 97 without a license plate at around 4 p.m., June 2, according to an RCMP media release.

An officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

The male driver and female passenger were uncooperative, which resulted in other officers being called to assist, and the pair were taken into custody.

A 57-year-old man and a 48-yer-old woman are facing charges.

The man has been charged with several offences including obstruction and assaulting a police officer. The woman has been charged with assault of a police officer.

The assaulted officer suffered minor injuries, RCMP said.

RCMP said no other details will be released to the public at this time.
