A Kelowna bylaw officer had their vehicle stolen on Monday but fortunately an off-duty cop was in the right place at the right time to help out.
RCMP said the bylaw officer's vehicle was stolen in downtown Kelowna, Jan. 2.
The off-duty Kelowna Mountie, who was driving his personal vehicle, picked up the bylaw officer and together they followed the stolen bylaw car until it stopped behind the public library, where the suspect tried to run, according to an RCMP media release. The off-duty constable chased the car thief on foot and arrested him.
The suspect, a Kelowna resident, was arrested for impaired driving and theft of a vehicle. He was later released with a court date for the theft.
Kelowna RCMP didn't identify the car thief and he hasn't yet been criminally charged by the Crown, according to court documents.
RCMP didn't say how the suspect managed to steal the City vehicle from a bylaw officer.
