The total number of new COVID-19 cases in B.C. over the weekend was below 1,000, and the daily totals were lower than they have been recently.

The Interior Health region didn't experience a similar improvement. The 211 new cases in the region over the weekend averaged 70 a day, which is about the same as the daily counts in the previous couple of weeks.

There were 946 new cases in B.C. over the weekend with 351 recorded by Saturday afternoon, 311 more by Sunday and 284 today, Dec. 6, according to a Province of B.C. news release.

There were 285 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 197 on Vancouver Island, 138 in Vancouver Coastal and 115 in Northern Health.

There were 11 new deaths but none in the Interior Health region. There have now been 2,362 people who have died of COVID in B.C.

There are 2,876 active cases with 241 people in hospital, 89 of whom are in intensive care.

The vaccination rate for those 12 and over who have at least one dose edged up slightly to 91.3% while those with two doses went up to 88.1%. Those with booster shots jumped a full percentage point to 11%. That’s more than 50% of B.C. residents over the age of 70.
