Nostalgia Facebook page captures Vernon's essence

The creator of a Vernon Facebook page that showcases the city’s history started it from her passion for old photographs.

Deena Lehoux is a longtime Vernon resident and after seeing the creation of Old Kelowna, another Facebook page that began to feature historical Kelowna content, she decided that Vernon needed something similar.

She started Vintage Vernon BC back in 2014, and it’s since gathered more than 8,000 followers.

“When I was little I would go to the museum a lot and I was fascinated by the pictures you know how it was back in the old days, I’ve always been drawn to Vernon history,” Lehoux said.

“It was the first name I thought of since it had a good ring to it, and it took off right away,” she said.

From Vernon’s old drive-in theatre to its city streets, Lehoux gets submissions from the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives and also from locals, she said.

One of her favourite shots has been an exhibition in the 1900s as she loves seeing the backgrounds and scenery of old-timey photos.
