A North Okanagan resident discovered an old mortar round on their Spallumcheen property yesterday, Oct. 28.

According to a Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP media release, the resident dug up what they believed to be an old mortar round at the property at the 1200 block of Round Lake Road in Spallumcheen.

"The scene has been cordoned off and an explosives disposal unit has been dispatched to deal with the ordnance," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release.

"This incident is a good reminder for anyone who locates an explosive device to leave it alone and contact the authorities immediately."

No other information about the unexploded ordinance was released by RCMP.
