VERNON - Paul Hutchen was driving through Vernon last week when he stopped at a gas station.
He had a “gut feeling” that he should buy a lottery ticket and as it turns out, that ticket matched all ten numbers in the Lotto 6/49 draw on June 29 and he won $1 million.
"My friend owns the local pub so I went there and he ran my ticket through his machine and confirmed the win,” Hutchen says in a BCLC media release. “My first thought was ‘Please don't have a heart attack right now.’”
Hutchen recently moved to Lumby, which is just east of Vernon, to be closer to his daughters after living on a boat on the B.C. west coast.
While he has plans to use the money to travel, including a bucket-list trip to Greece, he also will invest in his daughters’ futures.
“It will definitely let me look after them and help with their futures,” he says.
