North Okanagan man surrenders after standoff with police

A man was taken into custody after police responded to a call about someone making threats with a weapon in North Okanagan.

Vernon RCMP received a call about a disturbance at a home in the McLeod Subdivision in Spallumcheen around 10:20 p.m. yesterday, March 27, according to a press release from police.

The initial report said there was a man with a weapon threatening someone else inside the home and refusing to let them leave.

When officers arrived both the victim and the suspect left the home and the victim was able to get to safety.

The man went back into the house, ignored police and refused to come out.

Members of the RCMP Critical Incident Program and Southeast District Emergency Response Team were called to the scene.

Around 2 a.m. the suspect came out of the home and surrendered to police.

The 48-year-old man is facing several criminal charges and is still in custody with a scheduled court appearance.
