VERNON - The North Okanagan Fire Training Centre's ambitious plan for the next four years received approval at last night's council meeting, paving the way for big changes to the building.
Vernon city council approved of the Fire Training Centre's proposed budget for 2019 yesterday, Dec. 11, along with the City's percentage share of costs for the program. Council also signed off a four-year facility improvement plan for the building. The decision was unanimous.
The Training Centre's 2019 budget will receive $70,397 in inter-municipal recoveries and internal revenue, according to a report to council. The City of Vernon will contribute the lion's share at $38,414 or more than 50 per cent of the total contributions. The budget's total revenue is expected to be $230,897, with expected total expenses at $210,390.
The report also outlined the Training Centre's improvement plan for 2019-2022. This plan outlines improvement projects and associated costs for each year, including search and rescue props, asphalt repairs, hot water tank replacement, new sign and general repairs. The document shows how these improvements over four years are expected to cost, in total, around $96,000.
Other projects, such as burn building reinforcements, a security camera system and a website are currently ongoing.
