A North Okanagan couple is planning to help family and travel after winning after winning the the lottery.

Grinrod resident Gregory Thomason bought a Lotto 6/49 ticket for the Sept. 6 draw from Walmart in Salmon Arm on a whim, according to a BC Lottery Corporation media release issued today, Sept. 12.

“I saw the ticket booth and thought, ‘why not?’” Gregory said in the release.

Gregory first learned they won after checking their ticket at the Sutherlands Bakery in Enderby.

“When I told Patty, she thought it was a joke,” he said.

The Thomasons are still planning what to do with the windfall.

“We have said, ‘let’s not get ahead of ourselves and make some goals,' we want to think about how to use this,” Gregory said. “My nephew lives in England so maybe we’ll go visit him!”
