No one came even close to Milobar in election spending

Mayor Peter Milobar significantly outspent all other council candidates in the 2014 municipal election.

KAMLOOPS - The mayor outspent his closest competitor by nearly $37,000 and the top-spending councillor candidate fell more than 1,100 votes short of securing a council seat, according to financial disclosure records made available today, Feb. 23.

Councillor candidate Mike O’Reilly was the biggest spender behind Mayor Peter Milobar, coming in at nearly $20,000. More than half of the expenses were paid out of pocket by the council hopeful. Milobar spent more than $37,000, though his all came from donations.

The single biggest donation, $15,000, came to Coun. Dieter Dudy. The $15,000 donation came from Richard Antoniak, who recently had his property along Goose Lake Road purchased by KGHM Ajax.

The Vision Kamloops Alliance spent nearly $16,000, though each of the candidates also had other expenses. Only Dudy and Denis Walsh were elected, the other three alliance members—Jenny Green, Brad Harrison and Daphane Nelson—were not elected.

KGHM Ajax stuck to their promise and did not contribute to any individual candidate, though External Affairs Manager Yves Lacasse did make a $400 individual contribution to Milobar.

It may come as little surprise the five lowest vote-getters all spent no money on their campaigns.
