Paperwork is normally required to enjoy the timeless activity of casting a bait and hook into B.C. waters, but that won't be the case during Family Fishing Weekend.

Members clubs of the B.C. Wildlife Federation are inviting the all levels of fishers to try out the sport next weekend – June 16 to 18 – which will coincide with Father’s Day on the 18th.

“From North Vancouver to Revelstoke and lakes in between, experienced anglers will be on hand to help you bait a hook, tie your first lure and drop a line in the water at a lake brimming with fish,” according to the wildlife federation. “No license is required.”

More than 800 of B.C.’s lakes and rivers are stocked each year for angling, the wildlife federation says.

In order to qualify for licence-free fishing, anglers must have lived in Canada for the past 12 months.

Events are planned for Kamloops, Revelstoke, Enderby, Princeton Salmon Arm, Naramata and Clearwater. There will be family barbecues, fly-tying clinics, free rod and tackle to borrow, clinics for children, and stream clean-up projects.

A schedule of activities can be found here.
