KELOWNA - The Kelowna Fire Department responded in force this morning to a garage fire on Laurier Avenue in downtown Kelowna.
When they arrived, firefighters found thick black smoke and visible flames shooting from the garage’s interior. They were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to the house, but the garage and contents were destroyed.
Platoon Capt. Kelly Stephens said in a press release the department dispatched three engines, a rescue truck, a command vehicle along with 19 firefighters to the blaze. Kelowna RCMP, B.C. Ambulance and Fortis were also on site.
Two people and a pet were in the house when the fire started, but Stephens said no one was injured during the fire, although one person was checked out at the scene.
Fire department investigators are onsite trying to figure out what started it.
