Man who blamed 'demons' for girlfriend's slaying is indicted

TRENTON, N.J. - A New Jersey man who told a 911 operator that demons made him shoot his girlfriend to death inside their apartment this summer has been indicted on murder charges.

Daniel Torres Jr. also faces animal cruelty and weapons counts in the indictment handed up by Mercer County grand jury.

The 39-year-old Hamilton man is accused of shooting 31-year-old Jennifer Beer multiple times in the head and torso on Aug. 13.

Hamilton police who responded to the apartment heard a gunshot upon arrival. They forced entry and quickly detained Torres, then soon found a wounded Beer and a dead dog on the floor of a bedroom.

Authorities have said the dog died from a "very large" neck laceration.

Torres public defender could not be reached for comment Saturday.
