Bell Aliant expands fibre-optic technology in Newfoundland, invests $4.8M

STEPHENVILLE, N.L. - Bell Aliant (TSX:BA) is investing $4.8 million to bring its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology to three more towns in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The company, which operates phone, Internet and TV services, says its FibreOP service will soon be available to more than 8,000 homes and businesses in Harbour Grace, Deer Lake and Stephenville.

Fibre-optic technology is used for increasing Internet speeds and providing more high-definition television options.

Bell Aliant is a subsidiary of BCE and operates throughout Atlantic Canada and in parts of Quebec and Ontario.
