PEACHLAND - Peachland is still waiting to find out who will be mayor following a tie in last weekend's municipal election.
The application for a recount of ballots for Peachland mayor will be heard by a judge at the Kelowna Provincial Court building Friday, Oct. 26 at 11:30 a.m., acccording to a District of Peachland media release.
The vote is currently tied at 804 between incumbent Cindy Fortin and challenger Harry Gough.
Peachland chief elections officer Polly Palmer says in the release tomorrow’s proceedings will be open to the public but it will be up to the judge to decide when the actual recount will be conducted and who will be entitled to attend, other than the candidates, their official agents and legal counsel.
The count must be completed before the end of the day on Nov. 2.
If the result is still tied, the winner’s name will be drawn by lot. That process will be overseen by the court.
