The Thompson Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation alert due to a new wildfire that was discovered yesterday.
The Brook Creek wildfire is currently 50 hectares in size and located to the southwest of Merritt. It is suspected to be human caused, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.
The regional district issued the evacuation alert last night.
“A current wildfire in Electoral Area “M” (Beautiful Nicola Valley-North) and Electoral Area “N” (Beautiful Nicola Valley-South) poses a threat to the structures and residents for properties and area within the boundary,” according to the regional district.
The alert is for 89 properties and includes:
• 4180 Coalmont Rd;
• 488 to 544 Harlow Moore Dr;
• 7033 to 8695 Hwy 5A;
• 9440 to 10884 Hwy 97C;
• 3485 to 4580 Iron Mountain Rd;
• 4625 and 5395 Kane Valley Rd;
• 585 to 720 Mountainview Rd;
• 4600 Tillery Rd;
• 381 to 609 Wild Rose Dr; and
• any properties with the boundary outlined on the attached map.
“This evacuation alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” according to the regional district.
