PENTICTON - Penticton will have a new triathlon next summer.

MB Events executive director Michael Brown has announced his association with Super League Triathlon with a three-day triathlon festival coming to the Peach City from Aug. 17 to Aug. 19, 2018.

Super League Canada race in Penticton will be the only official “golden qualifier” Super League Triathlon race in North or South America next year, according to a media release.

Pro athletes can earn a qualification into the Super League Triathlon Championship series, with the top four pro men and woman earning immediate qualification into the championship series.

Brown recently staged the International Triathlon Union Championship Festival this past August in Penticton. In September, he cancelled his relationship with the Challenge triathlon brand after the event failed to live up to expectations. He has an agreement with the City of Penticton to stage a triathlon event in August for the next two years.

“We’re extremely excited to continue the amazing triathlon history in Penticton by bringing this event to B.C. next summer,” Brown says in the release.

“The premier brand Super League, and its exciting new triathlon format, will bring a fresh perspective for athletes and spectators alike," he says. "It’s incredibly special that age group athletes will be able to race the same race course as pro athletes on the same day."

Age group registration will open Nov. 1, 2017 and all information will be available on the event website starting Oct. 24, 2017.

The Super League Triathlon is based on short course formats.
