New Tesla Superchargers installed at Kamloops Visitor Centre

The new Superchargers have a 150-kilowatts charging capacity.

Tesla owners living in and driving through Kamloops now have a few more places to charge up.

Construction has been completed for two new Tesla Superchargers that were installed at the Kamloops Visitor Centre. Now, Tesla drivers can utilize a total of six chargers at that location, each with up to 150-kilowatt capacity.

Glen Cheetham, the City’s sustainability services supervisor, says all of the costs for the products and installation were covered by Tesla.

Cheetham says the City isn’t aware of how much usage the Superchargers get, but notes there have also been new chargers recently installed at the Aberdeen Canadian Tire and at the Petro-Canada Kamloops Travel Centre.

“Increased access to EV charging reduces barriers to EV ownership, enabling EV drivers to charge 'on-the-go' and supplement - or for some, substitute - at-home charging. It should be noted that Tesla's network of Superchargers is not publicly accessible as they are only available for use by Tesla owners,” Cheetham says in an emailed statement to iNFOnews.ca

There are now six Superchargers for Tesla owners to plug into at the Kamloops Visitor Centre.

Cheetham goes on to note that next Tuesday, Kamloops city council will be presented with an electric vehicle and an e-bike strategy that they may choose to adopt. The strategy will focus on ways in which the City can encourage the use of these environmentally friendly options, including the potential to support more publicly accessible vehicle charging stations.
