New store in Penticton looking for more local crafters and artisans to stock its shelves

Janine and Kailyn Walker are the shopkeepers at Canadian Handmade, the new business that promotes local goods at 450 Main Street in Penticton.

Several small businesses and local craftspeople have a new place to sell their work thanks to a new shop in downtown Penticton.

Canadian Handmade lives up to its name by only selling products that have been made by hand in Canada.

“I’ve always been a bit of an entrepreneur,” said owner Janine Walker, who just opened the doors to her store on Feb. 1.

“This is something that resonated with me with everything going on in Canada – I feel we need to do more to support local, small business.”

There are currently 14 artisans and crafters whose work is on display at Canadian Handmade, which include businesses like the Okanagan Valley Girls, The Humble Bug and S&M Soap Company.

Walker is looking for more Canadian inventory for her shop.

“It has to offer something different and be unique,” she said. “And it needs to be locally made, or at least Canadian made. I don’t have a whole lot of prerequisites – but it has to be quality merchandise.”

Walker’s daughter Kailyn is also helping to run the shop.

“We want to help people avoid sourcing from other countries when possible,” Kailyn said. “It’s so amazing to have so much of the community represented in here and see all this talent from B.C. and Canada."

The new store is located at 450 Main Street near the intersection of Wade Avenue.

Any crafters or artisans interested in connecting with Canadian Handmade can get in touch via email here.
