The vision to turn Kelowna Springs Golf Club into an industrial park was controversial, but the property’s developer has released a plan for a compromise.

Denciti Development Corp. released a plan to keep a nine-hole golf course on the property and turn the rest of the land into a mix of industrial, open space, and other recreation. The plan includes 35 acres of industrial park, a 12-court climate controlled pickleball dome, 10 acres of open space, as well as keeping the existing nine-hole Kelowna Springs Golf course.

Denciti bought the golf course at 480 Penno Road back in 2021 and when it said the plan was to turn it into industrial land there was some outrage from local golfers.

The City of Kelowna received hundreds of pages of correspondence from people who wanted to preserve the golf course, so council ultimately decided to keep the zoning recreational so the development couldn’t move forward.

That was in 2023 and the developer is getting ready to submit a new development application to the city this spring.

“Guided by two years of community input, the proposed plan aims to expand space for businesses, boost the economy, and add up to 700 new jobs while maintaining recreational activity,” the developer wrote on a website dedicated to the project.

Denciti is planning a community forum to get feedback on the new plan at Springvalley Middle School from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9.

Kelowna tried to buy the golf course from Denciti after the community voiced its desire to keep the space as just a golf course, but the developer turned down the city's offer.

Time will tell whether the plan for Kelowna Springs Golf Course will go ahead.
