New Kamloops cafe combines coffee, community and supporting other local businesses

Moustache and Go is a spinoff of its sister restaurant Red Beard Cafe located right next door. The cafe's manager Evan Carter says the new coffee shop will feature a community-friendly environment on Friday, March 22, 2019.

KAMLOOPS — The Red Beard Cafe is getting a bit of hairy help serving 'coffee nerds' on the North Shore with a new companion shop that completes the theme.

Moustache and Go has recently opened its doors for business right next to its sister restaurant.

The restaurant’s co-owner, Mitchell Forgie officially opened Moustache and Go last Tuesday. The cafe will take over Red Beard’s take out service and take out coffees, leaving Red Beard to focus on becoming a sit-down restaurant.

“If you’re in a hurry this is ideal and we get to be a bit more of the coffee nerds,” says Moustache and Go Manager Evan Carter.

Similar to Red Beard, the cafe will feature a community-friendly environment.

“We don’t have televisions here, we want people to come in with their families or ride their bikes over,” Carter says. “We want people to hang out and have good coffee and beer.”

Moustache and Go will feature similar items to Red Beard Cafe but will be more of a "grab and go" coffee shop while still offering a sit-down environment.

The cafe will feature several roasters from around the world and across the province. But their goal is to highlight roasters from B.C.

“We are trying to focus on getting B.C. roasters,” Carter says. They currently serve Fernwood from Victoria and Counterpart Coffee from Squamish.

At the front of the cafe, there is also a wall filled with items from local businesses in Kamloops and from around B.C. Currently, there are products for sale from Far and Wide located in downtown Kamloops and Chop N Block.

Carter says they are looking to expand the retail wall in the future to support and highlight more local businesses.

As of right now, the cafe is still a dry premise as they wait for a liquor licence approval, but once that comes through customers will be able to enjoy beers, ciders, and wine.

“It won’t be so in-depth as Red Beard but if you want a quick little beer or a glass of wine while you’re at a meeting, then come here,” he says.

The cafe is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and located at 443 Tranquille Road.
