The recent rapid rise in new COVID-19 cases in B.C. peaked on Christmas day with a record 2,552 new cases. That follows four consecutive days of record breaking case numbers.

But the case count dropped to 2,023 on Sunday and 1,713 on Monday.

The rapid climb in new COVID cases started last Tuesday with 1,308 cases and grew daily to the 2,552 on Saturday. That means the 1,713 on Monday is still a very high level.

Case counts in the Interior Health region stayed fairly level for most of last week then climbed to 188 on Friday. Over the weekend, there were 713 new cases in the Interior Health region, or an average of 238 per day.

Cases for each health region are listed as totals for the three days in a news release issued by the Province of B.C. today, Dec. 27.

There were 3,181 new cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region over the past three days, 1,482 in Fraser Health, 737 on Vancouver Island and 174 in the Northern Health region.

Details on deaths, hospitalizations and vaccination rates won’t be updated until Wednesday, the news release says.
