KAMLOOPS - A couple of Kamloops restaurateurs are in the process of opening the North Shore's first brew house this spring.

Brewery equipment was being unloaded at the future site of Bright Eye Brewing at 292 Tranquille Rd. this, March 12, ahead of the official licensed approval.

City council unanimously approved the first phase of Bright Eye's application at the regular council meeting today, sending it to a future public hearing.

"We’ve had really good feedback from folks at the City and great feedback from the industry," Bright Eye Brewing managing partner Richard Marken says in a phone interview.

He and his business partner, Mitchell Forgie, have a reputation in Kamloops's brewing industry. Forgie owns Red Beard Cafe on the North Shore and Marken was the original owner of The Nobel Pig.

Bright Eyes Brewing will be able to seat 76 people indoors and include a 34-person patio. Hours of operation would be 11 a.m. to midnight from Monday to Sunday, and the restaurant will include a full menu.

"We are not going to be doing any flagship brews," Marken says. "We don’t intend to distribute so all the beer will be sold in-house, which gives us a lot of flexibility to make some really interesting beers."

Marken says he hopes to open the doors by late April or early May.
