VICTORIA - Adrian Dix was given a rousing standing ovation from both sides of the B.C. legislature as he stood up in question period for the last time as New Democrat Party leader.
John Horgan is set to be acclaimed as the party's new leader by end of day, when the nomination period is expected to close with no other leadership contenders.
Dix will continue as the member for Vancouver-Kingsway.
He thanked his colleagues for the noisy farewell, and earned laughter and applause for saying that if he'd only know he could unite people so well he would have left a long time ago.
His colleague, Bruce Ralston, told the legislature Dix had "an energy, a passion, an intellect and an unrivalled work ethic" during his tenure.
Dix resigned the party leadership last September, months after a stunning election defeat.
