SALMON ARM - An Alberta man in his 60s has been taken to hospital after a crash with a pickup at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 97B just east of Salmon Arm.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the serious crash at approximately 8 a.m. today, July 25, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say a pickup heading west on Highway 1 turned left in the traffic light controlled intersection in front of the eastbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider was taken to hospital in serious condition. The driver of the pickup wasn't hurt.

The Trans-Canada was closed in both directions for about an hour before the westbound lanes reopened.

Drive B.C. says the westbound lanes should reopen by 12:30 p.m. In the meantime, an alternate route around the crash is available via Highways 97B and 97A.

“This is the second collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Revelstoke in recent days and police would like to remind all motorists to be vigilant as they travel around B.C.,” RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Mike Halskov says in the release. A motorcyclist died Wednesday on Highway 1, 29 kilometres west of Revelstoke after colliding with a transport truck.

RCMP continue to investigate today's crash. Anyone with information is asked to call Trans Canada East Traffic Services at 250-805-2111.
