After spotting mushroom-shaped figures made of ice and snow on what looks like old dock pilings in Okanagan Lake, a Summerland woman decided to snap a photo before they melted.

Located between Peachland and Penticton, Nicole Hunziker-Basler said she captured a shot of the figures, Feb. 20, on her way to work.

“I drive by every day, I saw it… and I thought it looked really interesting,” she said. “It’s funny that the wind and the cold and the weather (made those shapes).”

For photography enthusiasts, she recommends to go outside often, keep your camera with you, and aim for angle that others may not notice.

“I’m not a fan of the bitter cold, but these things only happen when it’s cold,” she said.

The mother nature created ice sculptures may soon melt as temperatures have warmed up this week. The forecast today, Feb. 24, called for a high of 5 Celsius.

To see more of Hunziker-Basler's photos visit the Peachland Art Gallery. Two of her photos are on display as part of the Captured Images exhibit, which features more than 70 local photographers. The exhibit continues until March 28.
