ENDERBY - Emergency crews attended the scene of a serious crash involving a school bus south of Enderby yesterday on Highway 97A.

B.C. Ambulance paramedics and firefighters were called to the crash involving four vehicles on Highway 97 A between Armstrong and Enderby at around 4:15 p.m. June 13.

Spokesperson for School District 83 Alice Hucul says there was only one student on the bus at the time and there are no apparent injuries. The driver also suffered no apparent injuries, Hucul says.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a release officers found three vehicles and one school bus involved in what appeared to be a chain reaction rear end collision.

"The driver and child passenger of the bus sustained no injuries as a result of the collision. Two other vehicle occupants sustained minor injuries and were transported by ground ambulance and one vehicle occupant was air lifted to the nearest medical facility," Brett says.

Police say the school bus had stopped to let the last passenger off for the day when the collision occurred.

"The bus driver was attentive and could see that a collision was about to occur just as the child was about to unload, however held the child back just prior to the collision occurring," Brett says.

A number of police cars remained parked around the accident scene as of 5:30 p.m. and an officer could be seen taking pictures of the crash. A blue SUV can be seen at the back of the school bus with extensive rear-end damage.

Emergency crews cleared the scene around 7:30 p.m., Brett says, and the status of the injured person air ifted to hospital is not known.

The highway was closed in both directions seven kilometres south of Enderby in the hours after the crash.
