The Latest: Heart Butte loses out of state hoops tournament

BUTTE, Mont. - The Latest on the Heart Butte boys' basketball team's games at the state Class C tournament (all times local):

3:45 p.m.

The Heart Butte boys' basketball team, which has been away from home for more than two weeks, lost out of the state Class C tournament on Friday.

The Heart Butte players have been staying at hotels and mostly eating at restaurants since they travelled to Shelby for their district tournament on Feb. 13.

Several feet of snow and strong winds have made travel difficult to impossible on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The team did not return home because they couldn't or feared they would not be able to travel to their next tournament.

The Warriors lost to defending state runner-up Manhattan Christian 66-53 on Thursday and fell to Fairview 61-47 on Friday afternoon at the Butte Civic Center.

Riley Spoonhunter led Heart Butte with 23 points and six rebounds on Thursday in the team's first loss of the season. He had 12 points and five rebounds on Friday, as Fairview outscored Heart Butte 43-23 in the second half.
