Movie 'A Loving Spoonful' being shot in downtown Kamloops

Members of the production crew filming the movie "A Loving Spoonful" pose at the Brownstone Restaurant in downtown Kamloops, June 7, 2022. The name of the eatery was changed for the shoot.

A movie called A Loving Spoonful is being filmed in Kamloops.

It's the fifth movie to be filmed in the area by parent company Champlain Media West in the past year.

Kamloops-based producer Cjay Boisclair of Askem Productions has been working with Vancouver-based producer Jeremy Kulyk of Kulyk Industries to showcase the people, sceneries and businesses in Kamloops and the Nicola Valley through the films.

“The hope is to grow the Kamloops and surrounding area film industry as a whole and funnel more opportunity here, including job creation,” Kulyk said.

The plot details of A Loving Spoonful cannot be given out yet, but Kulyk said it is a cute, beautiful, coming together story filmed partly at Brownstone Restaurant downtown and partly at Riverside Park.

“The cast and crew have been really great to work with and performed well,” he said. “I’m really excited to see it coming together.”

The producers do their best to use local actors and crew to facilitate jobs as they go. They use local caterers and vendors.

“We are raising up a Kamloops film crew and currently around 95 per cent live in Kamloops,” Boisclair said. “They are amazing. We film Kamloops as much as possible, the locations, people and businesses.”

Both producers agree Brownstone Restaurant - the name was changed to A Loving Spoonful for the movie shoot - was the best location for the film, and both enjoyed eating at the restaurant during the filming.

“Their hospitality has been second to none,” Kulyk said. “Their food and service is outstanding. They have been great to open their doors. Brownstone is a character in and of itself, there was no better place to shoot than there.”

The producers aren't saying when A Loving Spoonful will be released, but figure it'll be late this year or early 2023.

The first film they shot in Kamloops called Love and Where to Find It is airing on CityTV at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10 and at 1 p.m. on Saturday June 11.

“We are exhausted but it has worked really well for our partnership here,” Boisclair said.
