Move over groundhogs: Thompson Okanagan nurseries, markets, shops, ready for spring

The groundhogs may have predicted a long winter, but spring is in the air across the Thompson Okanagan.

Thompson Okanagan nurseries, farmers’ markets and plant shops are prepping for their spring-time openings.

Kelowna

In Kelowna, The Greenery Garden Centre, on Longhill Road, is back for another season.

According to the garden centre’s website, “the 2020 gardening season is starting, and we are ready.  Come in and look through our incredible selection of homegrown tropicals and tender succulents.  With hundreds to choose from, you are sure to find some new treasures to add to your collection.”

Shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week.

Okanagan Urban Jungle, a plant company that will be selling its wares at local farmer’s markets, has announced its returned for the spring season.

Look for Okanagan Urban Jungle plants March 8 at the Parkinson Recreation Centre.

Applications will open March 9 for vendors to be a part of the outdoor Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market on Dilworth Avenue. The market returns for the outdoor season in mid-April.

Vernon

The Flower Spot is getting close to its tentative opening date on March 14 at its location on Okanagan Landing Road. The garden centre announced on its Facebook page that combo pots have become popular over the last few years.

The Vernon Farmers' Market will move outdoors in April and will be held in the Mondays and Thursdays at Kal Tire Place.

Penticton

The Penticton Farmer’s Market is currently accepting vendor applications for its 30th season on Main Street.

The exact opening date for 2020 has not yet been announced.

Flowers On the Bench nursery on Upper Bench Road South will open its doors March 1. Check out the colourful flower varieties from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day of the week in March. Regular hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the season.

 

Kamloops

Ollek Nurseries on Knutsford Hills Drive is currently open and offering a wide variety of garden plants. The nursery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the season.

The Kamloops Regional Farmers’ Market will return to the outdoors on April 18 on St. Paul Street. It will also hold it’s usual Wednesday markets in front of the downtown TNRD Library starting May 6.

Vendor applications are currently being accepted and more information can be found on the market’s website.
