B.C. Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses and dash cam video after a motorcyclist died in a crash this past weekend on Highway 7 in Hope.

Officers were called to the collision at Highway 7 and Chawathil Road in Hope at around 11:04 a.m, Sept. 25, involving two motorcycles and a car, according to an RCMP media release.

An eastbound Mazda tried to pass and hit the first of the two motorcycles that were westbound. The rider on the first motorcycle was thrown, and their bike was struck by the second motorcycle, throwing its rider, RCMP said.

The first rider was killed and the second was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman from Port Coquitlam in her 20s was driving the Mazda. She wasn’t hurt and remained at the scene of the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. RCMP have not released the identity of the person killed.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who has information about the crash who has yet to speak with police, including anyone with dash cam video, and anyone who left the area before emergency crews arrived, B.C. Highway Patrol spokesperson Cpl. Mike Halskov said in the release.

He said even if the information seems insignificant it might help police with its investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact B.C. Highway Patrol in Chilliwack at 604-702-4039 and cite file 2021-41693.
