Motorcyclist killed in head-on collision on Trans-Canada in Shuswap

SICAMOUS - A woman riding a motorcycle was killed in a head-on collision with a transport truck in the Shuswap yesterday afternoon.

Sicamous RCMP received a report at approximately 3:40 p.m. yesterday, April 30, about a collision on Highway 1 near Cambie Solsqua Road in Malakwa.

A 53-year-old woman driving a motorcycle eastbound on Highway 1 crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a westbound transport truck, according to an RCMP media release. The woman, who was from the local area, died at the scene from her injuries. The truck driver was not injured in the collision.

The highway was closed for several hours while police investigated. Police say criminality did not play a role in the cause of the crash.

An investigation is currently underway by the Trans Canada East Traffic Services and the B.C. Coroners Service.

RCMP is asking anyone with information to call Trans Canada East Traffic Services at 250-344-2221 and quote file 2019-1958.
