LAKE COUNTRY – A Lake Country man is in hospital after crashing his motorcycle on Highway 97 yesterday afternoon.

RCMP say at around 12:11 p.m., June 18, the 30-year-old was southbound on Highway 97 about five kilometres north of Oceola Road in Lake Country when he lost control of his black Honda motorcycle, left the road and landed over an embankment.

The motorcyclist was found unconscious.

“Bystanders, including an off duty nurse and members of the RCMP performed CPR on the victim for several minutes while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical services,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release. “The victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in grave condition.”

An RCMP collision re-constructionist analyzing the crash scene has determined speed may have been contributing factor in the crash, O’Donaghey says.

Southbound traffic on Highway 97 was slowed for several hours.

Anyone who has yet to speak to investigators is asked to call Const. Katrina Claypool at the Lake Country RCMP detachment at 250-766-2288.
