As the new year approaches, it’s time to look back and find out what were the most popular BC baby names in 2023.
Noah remains the most popular name for babies born in the past year, according to a BC Ministry of Health news release. Noah was also the most popular boy's name in 2022. The most popular girl's name this year was Olivia, the same one as 2022.
Overall, the most popular names, according to preliminary figures from the Vital Statistics Agency, are Noah, Oliver, Olivia, Theodore, Liam, Jack, Emma, Sophia, Ethan and Leo.
While the list consists of mostly the same names as last year, some of the order has changed. In 2022, the top names for babies born in BC were Noah, Olivia, Oliver, Liam, Theodore, Jack, Emma, Lucas, Leo and Sophia.
Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 18, 2023, 37,650 babies were born in BC.
