PENTICTON - One car thief was easily apprehended last week while others failed to accomplish much in their attempts to steal vehicles in the city.

Police received a complaint of a suspicious male seen slumped over in the drivers seat of a Mercedes in a parking lot on Scott Avenue around 9:48 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Police arrived on scene and ran the vehicle’s plate, which turned out to belong to a vehicle stolen recently from Summerland.

The driver, who was known to police, was arrested for possession of stolen property and breach of recognizance.

He also had several outstanding warrants and was held for court.

Thursday, Dec. 1 police received a call at 7:20 a.m. from the owner of a four-door Civic that was stolen from the street in front of his Eckhardt Avenue residence overnight. The vehicle had been locked was insured and was also full of gas.

Several attempted thefts of vehicles were reported overnight Thursday, including a 1995 Acura parked on Sidney St. The window and ignition was punched but thieves couldn’t start the car. Nothing was taken.

A pickup truck on a nearby street also had its passenger window smashed.

Police are asking the public to report any suspicious behaviour on their streets.
