More travellers using Kamloops Airport

KAMLOOPS - With more than 27,000 passengers through the gates last month the Kamloops Airport remains on track for a record year.

In July 2015 nearly 27,200 people used the Kamloops Airport for travel, an 8.3 per cent increase over July 2014. Managing Director Fred Legace partially attributes the higher numbers to increased tourist travel under the lower Canadian dollar.

In total the first seven months of the year there was a two per cent increase over 2014, with more than 185,700 travellers coming through the gates in 2015. This leaves the Kamloops Airport on pace for beating the record number of travellers who came through the gates in 2014.

A change in the aircraft being used for wildfire operations has led to a decrease in overall vehicle movements.

Work continues on 6,000 feet of runway, with the western portion of the original runway completed earlier this week.
