More than a dozen wild horses shot and killed near Kamloops

FILE PHOTO

Police are investigating after 17 horses were found shot to death on Crown land north of Walhachin, which is 65 kilometres west of Kamloops.

The Tk’emlups Rural RCMP detachment got a call about the horses on March 10.

They appear to be from a herd of wild horses that frequent the area.

“The motive behind this disheartening act cannot be confirmed at this point,” an RCMP news release says. “However, investigators will continue to collect and examine everything available. It is acknowledged that these horses are of cultural significance to the local Skeetchestn Band.”

Anyone with information about the slaughter is asked to call Corp. Cory Lepine in the RCMP Livestock Section at 250-299-7462 or by email at cory.lepine@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
