KAMLOOPS - More than 20 drivers were given roadside prohibitions during the first two weekends of Kamloops RCMP's Counter Attack program.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie released the results today, Dec. 12, which included the following:

  • 13 drivers were given three-day immediate roadside prohibitions
  • 10 drivers were given 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions
  • 5 vehicles were uninsured
  • 4 drivers were given 24-hour prohibitions for driving while under the influence of alcohol
  • 2 drivers were given 24-hour prohibitions for driving while under the influence of drugs
  • 2 unlicenced drivers

Kamloops RCMP also seized drugs from six vehicles, gave tickets to two unlicenced drivers, found one driver who was prohibited from driving, discovered one misuse of a licence plate and issued one ticket for excessive speed.

"Remember, RCMP officers will be out and looking for impaired drivers for the rest of December," Shelkie says in the release. "The consequences of impaired driving are massive. You’re risking your life and the lives of others."

Shelkie suggests making a plan before drinking, like a designated driver, plan on taking a taxi, public transportation or using Operation Red Nose.
